International Students
On August 12, 2026, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a broadcast message regarding CPT authorization for F-1 students. On August 24, 2026, ICE issued a follow-up broadcast message, Guidance for Designated School Officials Regarding Curricular Practical Training, providing additional clarification on CPT requirements.
The updated guidance indicates that CPT should be authorized only when practical training is a required component of the academic program for all students pursuing the certificate and is necessary for program completion.
Effective immediately and until further notice, ISS will suspend the review and processing of CPT applications submitted on or after August 12, 2026, when the internship or practical training experience is not an official certificate requirement for all students enrolled in the program.
UCLA Extension is actively reviewing the new CPT guidance and will provide additional information and updates as they become available.
