The Legal Technology certificate equips legal professionals with the understanding of different legal technologies that are in common use in the profession today and provides the basic training necessary to competently participate in key aspects of this rapidly evolving and expanding area of law.
The Legal Technology certificate provides students with a comprehensive understanding of local and federal rules governing discovery, the correlation between records management and litigation costs and the processes involved in eDiscovery. This certificate addresses the dramatic impact technology has on the legal field and will prepare students to understand and implement eDiscovery software and computer programs used by law firms, including electronic filing; database design; data-mining techniques employed in computer investigations; and the use of graphics and visual presentation methods that bring technical innovation into the courtroom.
Students will learn about best practices in records management and discover today’s technology with which electronic data is collected, analyzed and presented in the discovery process. Students will also gain a greater contextual understanding of legal and practical issues surrounding the use of technology in business, such as Internet law, e-commerce, and other issues of cyber law that affect many corporate legal clients.
