This course introduces fundamental concepts and techniques for developing interactive for desktop/mobile Web-based maps and applications. Use of industry-standard Web mapping platforms to develop maps is emphasized.
What You Will Learn
- Develop, sharpen, and reinforce understanding of the cartographic process and best practices in Web-based map design
- Explore how best practices of cartographic design can be applied to creating interactive mapping products
- Learn how to develop interactive Web-based maps and mapping applications using industry-standard Web mapping and cloud GIS platforms
- Learn about the theory and technical frameworks/concepts underlying Web-based mapping
Technical requirements: Students are responsible for providing a personal computer with at least 2GB of RAM that runs Windows 7 or better. Macs can be used provided that Windows is installed either using Boot Camp or virtualization (VirtualBox, Parallels, etc.) with at least 2GB of RAM allocated to Windows. Students will be provided with a student license for ArcGIS as long as they are enrolled in program courses.
