About the Artist
Bees and Flowers III The third in a series of pieces devoted to the connection between wildflowers and bees. Bees are a critical key to pollination of flowers and plants. Without them, farming and our food supply would be in danger. I was fascinated by this simple, yet delicate exchange between flora and fauna. Bees don’t have great vision but are attracted by an electromagnetic field generated by the flowers so the bees know where to find nectar. It's a beautiful dance as they fly from flower to flower, covering themselves with pollen. This piece celebrates this vital dance and the vibrancy of life it creates.
This third in the series began as a loose idea without sketching, which is my normal process. I wanted to experiment with a looser style of painting that gave me more freedom to play with abstract forms. It evokes this feeling of movement in the flowers, dancing, tempting and bursting to be noticed by the bees - A floral kaleidoscope. The bees are almost lost in this wild buffet of flowers.
I am a black, gay male (He/Him) emerging artist from Brooklyn, NY. . I gravitated towards arts & crafts as a young child. I discovered watercolors in my early teens at a summer camp for the arts. I continued painting throughout my later teens, until songwriting and singing music took over my life ambitions in college. I reignited my love for watercolor painting during the pandemic to channel my energy, anxiety and feed my natural-born need to create. When I don't have a paintbrush, pencil or marker in hand, I'm penning and recording R&B music. I am a Creative to my core.
Vibrant color, movement and joy are the hallmarks of my work. I tend to focus on floral themes that celebrate color and our connection to nature. I’m drawn to the serenity of water, beach and the limitless color and beauty of marine life. I paint subjects that celebrate the African American experience, especially women and children. These themes give me the platform to employ color and movement to create a joyful energy on paper.
