About this course:

When people think of the art style of videogames, they usually picture pixel art of the 80's or the blocky polygons of the late 90's. However, there is a universe of different art styles in videogames, such as abstraction, minimalism, expressionism, and everything in between. This class combines lecture and studio work to examine the styles of significant videogames throughout history. Using traditional media such as drawing and painting, student will channel the inspiration in these games into distinct artworks. The goal of the class is to gain an appreciation for the stylistic influences in 50 years of videogame history and use them as jumping-off points for traditional medium work.
