Candice Mackey

Candice Mackey is a passionate advocate, presenter, contributor, and writer focused on supporting public school counselors and students. With over 15 years of experience as a school counselor in various middle and high schools across southern California, Candice has dedicated her career to serving multicultural, multilingual and diverse student populations.

Currently, Candice serves as the college counselor at the first public magnet school in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). She is a student-centered professional who advocates for equitable access to higher education, career preparation, and college admissions practices for all students, and particularly those from marginalized communities.

Candice's commitment to advancing the field of public school counseling is evident in her extensive involvement in various professional committees and advisory boards. She serves on the advisory council for the NACAC Center for Reimagining College Access and the advisory council for NACAC's Character Focus Initiative.  Additionally, Candice is the co-chair for NACAC's Public School Counselor Special Interest Group, a member of the editorial advisory group for the Fiske Guide to Colleges and a member of the College Board's Counselor Community Advisory Group. She also serves on the access advisory board for a highly selective institution. 

Beyond her advocacy work, Candice has also served as a University of California Application Reader for UCLA and UC San Diego as well as being a college instructor. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and ethnic studies from Cal-Polytechnic Pomona University, as well as a Master of Science degree and Pupil Personnel Services credential in educational counseling from the University of La Verne.
