Evelyne Fodor

Evelyne Fodor holds a Ph.D. in French & Francophone Studies and a dual major B.A. in Comparative Literature and French from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her academic interest has been the social, cultural and literary impact of Paris19th century urban architecture, the “passages”. She is the recipient of multiple Fellowships and awards including the Robert Merrill Award for Best TA.

Born in Lyon, France, she later lived in Guadeloupe before moving to Los Angeles after meeting her future husband. Here she began a successful career in the Fashion industry.

A passion for teaching began as a returning graduate at UCLA, engaging students with her French touch in Beginning to Advanced language courses, including the summer Intensive and the Paris Travel-Study programs. Her interest in digital education started with her participation on a distance learning project in French between UCLA Extension and Senegal. This digital interest extended into her classroom, integrating online teaching tools, e-books and digital media as part of language instruction.

Moving to the Central California wine region of Paso Robles in 2012, she undertook online classes to become a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) from the Society of Wine Educators. She is now a wine consultant at Tablas Creek Vineyard, a prestigious French-American winery.

From her early days in California representing French fashion brands, to her teaching of French culture and language at UCLA, to her contribution to the local wine industry, Evelyne brings to her UCLA online students a unique blend of educational skills, cultural experience, and an intimate knowledge of French tradition. She believes that while learning French can be complex and intimating, being immersed in French culture is one of the most rewarding things you could ever do, opening great opportunities, while bringing you joy and valuable skills.
