Jeffrey Deverett

Filmmaker, teacher, and consultant. Mr. Deverett has financed and produced nine independent feature films, three of which were picked-up by Netflix for worldwide distribution. He also co-wrote and directed five of his features and won Best Director for his film, God Incorporated at the Chandler International Film Festival. 

 

Although Mr. Deverett is most passionate about producing and directing films, he has spent most of his film career in the film distribution business, selling & marketing movies & TV shows. He spent three decades working for several major media companies and ultimately founded his own film distribution company. He has attended hundreds of film festivals and film markets worldwide and has focused mainly on family genre films and children’s programming including Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine and many more iconic brands.

 

In 2020, Mr. Deverett began his teaching career in the film/TV department at San Diego State University. He is excited to join the instructor team at UCLA Extension and to share his years of experience and knowledge with aspiring filmmakers. With a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School (Toronto, Canada) and a finance degree from University of Toronto, he is well versed in all aspects of intellectual property and film producing.

 

As a professional film consultant, Jeff provides guidance and insights to hundreds of indie filmmakers worldwide who need assistance primarily in learning how to get their project financed and distributed. Jeff has launched several major initiatives to assist indie filmmakers in producing financially successful features. This includes the creation of The Indie Film Community, an online platform for film education and guidance, and the introduction of an Assembly Bill to the California State Legislature to create a tax credit financial incentive program for films with budgets under $1.0 million.
