Introduction to Laboratory and Scientific Methodology
Perform cutting-edge bioinformatics laboratory experiments involving microscopes and live experimental subjects. Students work in small groups of three in this introductory life science laboratory course.
What you can learn.
- Learn proper use of micropipettes, spectrophotometer, and microscopes
- Identify appropriate dissection techniques using scalpels, scissors, forceps, and bone shears
- Practice suitable handling and disposal of bacterial cells and tissue waste
- Apply Excel, BLAST, and Mega4 programs to explore molecular biology, genotyping, and bioinformatics
About this course:
Introductory life sciences laboratory designed for undergraduate students. Opportunity to conduct wet-laboratory cutting-edge bioinformatics laboratory experiments. Students work in groups of three conducting experiments in areas of physiology, metabolism, cell biology, molecular biology, genotyping and bioinformatics. Letter grading. Transferable for UC credit.LIFESCI XL 7B Genetics, Evolution and Ecology. Recommended to be taken concurrently with/or after LIFESCI XL 7C Physiology and Human Biology.
