About this course:

This course is designed to provide trainees with a foundation of the application of radiography in the diagnosis and treatment plan of orthodontics. Topics include craniofacial osteology and anatomy, cephalometric landmark identification and tracing, cephalometric analysis, and using cephalometric radiographs and adjunctive radiographs (eg hand-wrist) to assess skeletal maturity. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) 3D imaging and its applications in imaging impacted teeth, size of airway, malocclusions, and temporomandibular joint disorders will also be covered. Topics include basic principles of modern CBCT technology, protocol and principles for CBCT imaging in orthodontics, diagnosis, and treatment planning of impacted teeth, upper airway morphology, dentoalveolar boundary, TMDs, and 3D virtual outcome simulation of different treatment modalities. This is an ongoing three year course. Each year the trainee will gain a deeper and broader understanding of advanced orthodontic techniques as it relates to radiography.
