The below information is for students applying for an F-1 visa for UCLA Extension Certificate and Study Abroad at UCLA Programs. Review the Academic Calendar for current quarter dates.

International Program Fees

International students enrolling in on-campus International Programs on an F-1 student visa are responsible for the following fees.

Description of Fees

 

The International Program Fee is a fee charged to provide various support services to our international students, including:

  • UCLA Bruincard (student ID card)
  • Library card
  • UCLA Recreation membership
  • Culturally-rich international student activities
  • Immersive international student orientation
  • Receptions, networking activities, and a graduation celebration for certificate students
  • Comprehensive immigration advising on F-1 status maintenance
  • CPT and OPT application support (when eligible)
  • Access to the UCLA Bruin Promise (alumni services) for Certificate Program graduates

The International Program Fee is $3,850 for the first quarter of study and $2,850 for each subsequent quarter of continued study at UCLA Extension.

First Quarter

The first quarter International Program Fee is charged in two parts: The Program Deposit ($500) and the Program Fee Balance ($3,350) for a total of $3,850.

  • Program Deposit: $500 non-refundable program deposit due upon acceptance into the program. The deposit must be received within 2 weeks of the admission date. 
  • Program Fee Balance: The balance of $3,350 is due at least 30 days before the quarter start date. Failure to pay the fee before the stated deadline will result in the automatic cancellation of admission to the program and of Form I-20.

Subsequent Quarters

  • The International Program Fee is $2,850 for each subsequent quarter of study at UCLA Extension. The fee is due at least 30 days before each quarter start date. Failure to pay the fee before the stated deadline will result in the automatic cancellation of admitted status in the program and of Form I-20.

Accepted payment methods are cash, check, credit card, or bank wire transfer.

Credit card payments are the fastest and easiest payment method.

Please note that the program fee may vary per quarter, and is subject to change at any time.

Fees for enrollment in individual courses are not included in the International Program Fee and must be paid separately for each course.

Fees for one 4-unit course range from approximately $600 to $1,600.

You will need to be enrolled in 12 units of coursework each quarter to maintain your F-1 status.

International students are required to have health insurance for the duration of their studies. Health insurance is not included in the International Program Fee.

For students:

  • You must demonstrate that you have health insurance for the duration of your studies. Please visit the Health Insurance website to view the requirements. Consult the Academic Calendar for quarter start and end dates.

For students with dependents:

  • Although insurance is not required for dependents of UCLA Extension international students, it is highly encouraged, as health costs in the United States can be prohibitively expensive if needed.

UCLA Extension International Programs do not include housing and living expenses. You and/or your sponsor must cover these expenses. Costs will vary based on preference.

Some courses may involve special equipment, laboratory fees, special computer hardware or software, and/or other special materials. In such cases, you may have to pay an additional fee to cover those expenses. You will also need to buy your own textbooks.
 

Refunds

International Program Fee Refunds

The $500 program deposit is non-refundable. In the event that you choose to defer the start of your program to a later quarter, the $500 deposit will be valid for up to one year from the quarter selected in the initial application. You may defer the start of your program one time. Deferral requests must be submitted to internationalprograms@uclaextension.edu at least 30 days prior to the start of your program.

Denial or delay of visa does not waive a student from the refund policy. Students are advised to purchase airfare after obtaining their visa (when applicable).

Students who have paid the balance of the International Program Fee and cancel their application prior to the program start date will be refunded according to the following refund schedule:

*In all cases, the $500 deposit is non-refundable.

Fees incurred to process a refund will be deducted from the amount refunded to the student; this could include but is not limited to wire transfer fees, postage fees, etc.

Tuition Refunds

Tuition refunds will adhere to and follow the UCLA Extension Tuition Refund Policy

Activities, Co-curricular, and Extracurricular Programming Refunds

The International Program Fee pays for some (not all) activities, co-curricular, and extracurricular programming. If a student chooses not to participate in the programming offered, they are not eligible for a refund and forfeit their participation. All activities are non-transferable. Some activities will require advanced registration and will have limited tickets, seats, and placements available. Access to participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

General notice regarding International Program Fees:
 
UCLA Extension fees for students enrolled in International Programs are higher than fees for U.S. and California residents. The higher fees cover the costs of providing additional student services. These fees are common for public institutions in the U.S. Fees for California residents are lower than fees for non-residents and international students as California residents pay California State taxes that support state universities. UCLA and other California State Universities are subsidized by these tax dollars paid by California residents.
