About this course:
The future XR metaverse has yet to be built. In what promises to be an exciting new field, this class will cover a range of methodologies, tools, and strategies for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), collectively known as XR world building. Students will have a hands-on approach to learning and understanding how to create immersive worlds of their own design. Portions of the class will be held and taught in XR as well as traditional remote instruction. The focus of this class will be on elevating both the understanding of what world building is and how to accomplish it effectively. The course will contain 4-5 projects of increasing complexity to allow for experimentation and incremental improvement. Students leave the course with a portfolio of introductory work and an understanding of methods, tools and processes that will be fundamental to future learning and development. A Meta Quest 2 with 256 GB of storage is required for this course, as well as a PC or laptop able to run Unity.
Prerequisites
It is recommended students take DESMA X 485.67 Blender for Web3D World Building concurrently or have previous 3D modeling experience.
